Our Smash Life journey started in 2018 and we have spoken on some huge stages across the UK, delivered training to loads of different organizations, supported nearly 800 young people already and have forged some amazing partnerships/friendships.

Here’s to the next five years - thanks to all our wonderful staff/ ambassadors / partners / and of course the inspiring young people we all support daily! .

So I stepped out of my comfort zone ………

A lovely morning at one of the homes of @amberleighcaretc speaking to small groups of young men & delivering my own @smashlifeuk workshop.
.
These lads answers (see images 2-10) to some of my questions at the end of the session brought a smile to my face.
.
Sometimes we don’t know if the seeds we try & plant now will resonate but all we can do is to keep trying.
.
The warmth and love I received today from the staff & young men at this home made me wish that maybe I had been rescued & put in one like I had visited today ….they are now set up to be places of trauma healing, education, empowerment for the future and remind young people they are not lost in this world but are loved and cared for … everyday by staff that go above and beyond .

We make stuff happen…the things we needed & wanted as children..

So next Monday we play our first @smashlifeuk football game - young people, ambassadors and staff all coming together to make memories and have fun that will last a lifetime!
.
Well done to my bro @smithyandy13 for bringing it altogether - check out Andy modelling our new kit designed in collaboration with Smash Life head of media @bartldrum - it promises to be a special day @wrekincollege with legend Ryan from the awesome @fishheads2021 feeding all the players!

My carers never once came to watch me play football as a child, a sport as a child I loved. Seeing all the other parents cheering their kids on and seeing nobody on the touch line giving me that positive reinforcement or even taking me to and from games is just one of the reasons why we want to do this for young people now we support. Sport is to be enjoyed & an ideal place to have fun, offer encouragement,learn and grow.
.
Trauma is not what just happened it’s the grief you go through asking yourself; ‘Why didn’t I have that growing up?’ when you see for alot of other children it was their norm.
.
We can’t change the past but we can all create a better future for those children now !
.

It’s been a long road but one we have taken together.
.
From running around playing football together, causing trouble, being naughty at home/school, fighting and arguing (like most siblings do) to living with two bullies and enduring an 8.5 years (3102 days) with them whilst they abused us whilst being paid for the privilege…

To then not talking in our late teens and twenties due to the abuse to RECONNECTING in our thirties to start something very close to our hearts Smash Life.

WE MADE IT THROUGH BROTHER. WE ENDURED. ❤️

From all the @smashlifeuk staff team, your close friends and family HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂

We all love you loads, you always strive to help others, have a great energy and are always there for anyone. Today is about appreciating YOU!
