As a kid navigating a painful, often chaotic childhood, football was more than a gameā€”it was a lifeline. A healthy distraction. A sense of belonging. My first foster carer, Dave, loved @liverpoolfc , so I did too. We watched them on the BBC in the late ā€™80s, and in those moments, something lit up in me. . Back then, it was jumpers for goalposts, battered tennis balls in alleyways, muddy fields under streetlights, and endless kickabouts until the sky went black. I played for school, college, Sunday league, and whatever pub team would take me. I was never the bestā€”but I played with heart. . Somewhere along the way, life got louder, and music found me. But lately, Iā€™ve found my way back to football. Iā€™m unfit, wildly out of shape, and technically dodgyā€”but Iā€™m smiling again. Really smiling. . Itā€™s funny how life comes full circle ā­•ļø. . Iā€™ve Itā€™s funny how life comes full circle ā­•ļø. . Iā€™ve just hit the same age as an old musician mate of mine, someone I once looked up to. He suddenly quit all his musical projects back then, and as an 18-year-old, I couldnā€™t wrap my head around it. I remember feeling confused, maybe even a little betrayedā€”how could someone just walk away from something we were so passionate about? We used to talk for hours in pubs over drinks about songs, albums,artists, gigs, concert memories ā€¦ I never thought he would lose the fire šŸ”„ and walk away from it all but he did. But now, standing where he once stood, I get it. There comes a time when just *doing* isnā€™t enough. We all crave growth, fresh challenges, and new experiences. Staying in the same lane can start to feel like stagnation, especially when youā€™re surrounded by people content with the bare minimum. Iā€™ve been thereā€”playing in bands where the fire wasnā€™t there for everyone, where motivation was an afterthought, and creative energy felt like a rare resource. And while thereā€™s a certain camaraderie in sticking together, thereā€™s also a slow death that comes from being surrounded by people who arenā€™t pushing themselvesā€”or youā€”to be better. At a certain point, you realize you need more. New goals, new skills, and new environments that ignite a spark again. Itā€™s a lesson that carves itself deep into your heart, leaving you to grapple with the idea of impermanence. Caregivers, friends, even the walls around meā€”they were all temporary. The only constant was change, and with it, a loneliness that sat heavy in my chest. I remember the feeling of attachment, how desperately I clung to the hope that maybe this time, someone would stay. But the revolving door of people in my life taught me that attachments are fleeting. They leave, and when they do, they take a piece of you with them, leaving behind echoes of love that was never fully mine to keep. Now, as an adult, Iā€™ve come to realize that letting go is a skill I was forced to master far too early. Itā€™s the art of releasing love, not because it wasnā€™t real, but because itā€™s the only way to protect the fragile parts of myself. Loving what you do and seeing your projects thrive Loving what you do and seeing your projects thrive is a rewarding experience, but with that success comes a relentless pace that can leave you feeling completely burnt out. As a man, itā€™s hard to admit when youā€™re tired, let alone ask for a break. Youā€™re used to putting on a brave face, pushing through the exhaustion, because you donā€™t want to let anyone down. But in the process, youā€™re starting to realize that you canā€™t control how others behave or react, and thatā€™s a tough truth to swallow. Recently, Iā€™ve found myself reflecting on life more deeply. Iā€™ve seen people I know pass away, and itā€™s brought me to a crossroads. Life is shortā€”too short to spend it only chasing success while missing out on the experiences that make it truly rich and fulfilling. I want to be successful, but I also want to live fully, to experience everything life has to offer. In the midst of all this, Iā€™ve started to notice how few people really take the time to check in, even as youā€™re busy supporting everyone else. Itā€™s made me question the balance in my life and the importance of finding true happiness, not just in my work, but in every aspect of this short life. Maybe itā€™s time to seek that balanceā€”to allow myself to rest, to live, and to enjoy the moments that matter most. Success is important, but so is mine & your well-being and happiness. You canā€™t pour from an empty cup, and we all deserve the same care and attention we give to others.
